Weekend Inspiration:Concert for Virginia Tech-Mountain High
.
..Reflections
Cynthia D. Wilson,Revcoolc, the affable Heavier Octaves’ station host shares how her perspectives were heightened both spiritually and physically as she offers this inspiring and thought provoking post concert reflection.
Virginia Tech is a school which sits high in the Blue Ridge mountains. She had no idea the campus was so high in elevation or as geographers would say, above sea level. The thought hadn’t occurred to her until she was actually en route in the Smart bus and began witnessing the surrounding and spiraling landscape. She also began experiencing a slight degree of lightheadedness as the vehicle in which she was being transported from the city of Roanoke to the isolated community of Blacksburg, ascended the mountain.
She had traveled many miles from New York City to her final destination to attend the Concert for Virginia Tech headlined by Dave Matthews,John Mayer,Phil Vassar and Nas as a minister, avid John Mayer fan and citizen journalist. She recalls it as a heartwarming event and truly an experience which unified a college town, while heightening her consciousness and physical location.
Not only did she experience the “healing” of a community through music, but became a willing participant in its revival as she witnessed it overcome trauma through the spirit of resiliency and “profound fun” generated by this concert. The entire event could be perceived as a creative prayer for healing and restoration of a community traumatized and grief stricken by the unfortunate events of April 16,2007,which claimed the lives of over 30 of its members.
In this podcast episode, she shares post concert reflections as well as a play list of “Hokie Spirit” exhibited during the concert.
Enjoy!
