Talk about “It’s Getting Hot in Here“,New York summers are very sultry and in most cases the heat borders on tropical. During times like these I wonder how any one could live comfortably without a working air conditioning unit? I also wonder what most grocery stores would do without the use of those thin plastic bags. I really prefer the brown paper bags, but then we are talking depletion of the rain forests.
I think John Mayer has a good idea with his proposed reusable shopping bags. I’m curious what other kinds of products he will be designing within the 90 day window he gave himself to invent and produce them on his “(Not) Waiting on the World to Change” blog a few weeks back. I think he’s on to something.Well,we’ll just have to wait and see. I think his move to convert his tour bus to a biodiesel system was admirable, even though he admittedly will be flying around in a charter jet during parts of his summer tour and owns a porsche SUV.
You have to give him credit for admitting this. I mean who doesn’t own an SUV in America? And who does not want to own a Porsche SUV? I think the emphasis in terms of resolving the problem of fuel overconsumption should be placed on streamlining corporate use. Conversion to alternative fuels would go a longer way in solving the fuel problem than snubbing our noses to people who drive SUV’s.Even though building and promoting the use of hybrid vehicles is a step in the right direction.
Back to the heat…
I think I got ten times warmer than usual trying to get a podcast up regarding a global warming project I’m currently working on. I’ve been designing a PSA. During times like these,I call upon the “geek” within… or without depending upon how you look at it.
Anyway, out of the green or out of the blue…please come,so I can get back on track. I am gettin’ so hot,I wanna…sweat. But,I’m already drenched. I try to use my air conditioner in moderation. I wonder how much energy it would conserve,if people just cut back a little on the air units. Here’s a tip posted on this blog: reduce energy needed for cooling - Air conditioners alone use up to 1/6th of the electricity in the U.S. and, on hot summer days, consume 43% of the U.S. peak power load. You can reduce much of the need for air conditioning, and enjoy a cost savings benefit, by using ‘passive’ techniques to help cool your home. here’s how …I have the fan going for now. Does it really make a big difference? Should I post a PSA? I need a signal.I’m stuck…
Incidentally,John is among top musicians who will be performing in the Live Earth Concert to inspire positive and creative response to the global warming crisis on July 7,2007. He will be performing at Giants Stadium.
Peace,
Cynthia
